Based on Dundon's friendship with Mark Cuban, expect the players (and their families) to be treated in ways this franchise has never before even considered, from how they travel to how they eat to how they train to how they recover.

Based on how he has run his businesses in the past, from hockey operations to ticket sales to marketing to concessions to game presentation to parking to broadcasting to merchandising to accounting. Given that history, expect Dundon to personally evaluate every single aspect of the franchise, expect him to spend money where he thinks it will make an impact and prune excess where he thinks it won't.

And remember that the NHL likes to do nice things for new owners, they might actually get to participate in one at some point. It's too soon to get another All-Star Game, so while an outdoor game at Carter-Finley Stadium is probably going to remain a pipe dream until the Hurricanes have a higher national profile (or more ex-Blackhawks players), but maybe the draft could return in the next few years. There are already rumors the Hurricanes could play in Finland next season.

and for a franchise that's been run essentially the same way for 20 years - well in some areas,This ownership transfer is going to be disruptive in every sense of the word, including the franchise finally publicly acknowledging its lineage as the Hartford Whalers, which was generally forbidden under Karmanos. (If nothing else, not so well in many others - that's been a long time coming. Anything's possible at this point, a preseason game in Hartford and a Whalers Night in Raleigh both sound like licenses to print money.)

Given all that, what's it going to mean? Right away, probably not much.

like everyone else,General manager Ron Francis and head coach Bill Peters, which bodes well for their futures. Dundon is likely to be more involved in day-to-day management decisions than in-game coaching decisions, so this transition will have a bigger affect on Francis, are likely to be given a chance to see if they can do things the way Dundon wants them done. Both have embraced analytics in recent years, but that's an area to watch in the longer term.

One area to watch will be Dundon's interactions with the Centennial Authority. One of the first things Cuban did after buying the Mavericks was completely retool the team's quarters behind the scenes, from the locker room to the treatment areas to the guest facilities. Dundon can't unilaterally do those things at PNC Arena; they have to be done in concert with the authority, which oversees the building.

and he certainly appears poised to do that,If he's willing to pay for changes, whether that's upgrades to the scoreboard to improving wireless service to adding or removing concession stands, lounges and restaurants. The authority gets a say in that, the authority won't stand in his way in areas the Hurricanes occupy and control. It gets trickier when it comes to the building's common areas, even if Dundon writes the check.

let's say Dundon decides he wants to do something as simple as change the color of the seats in the building. That would require a three-way negotiation among the Hurricanes,Just as one example, and students of history will remember what a toxic flashpoint that has been throughout the arena's history, N.C. State and the Centennial Authority, what should have been called the Pantone Wars but weren't.

It works both ways: The authority has put a hold on plans to expand the south entrance plaza of the arena and add office space on the north end until a new owner is in place. Dundon will now be able to sign off or modify those plans.

the Hurricanes have,Authentic Martin Jones jersey,Additionally, managed and booked the arena themselves. While the Hurricanes have found that to be quite profitable, Dundon could outsource some or all of that operation to a national operator like AEG, since the arena opened,Authentic Brent Burns jersey, SMG or Spectra if he prefers to focus on the hockey team.

which manages a large number of outdoor amphitheaters - including Raleigh's Walnut Creek Amphitheater - and a few European arenas,There are also indications Live Nation, adidas Jake Allen jersey, Live Nation tried to buy SMG but was outbid, is looking to get into the indoor arena business in the states. Earlier this year, and it is a partner with the Oak View Group that won the right to renovate Seattle's Key Arena in hopes of landing NHL and NBA teams.

Even if Dundon retains control of the arena operation itself,Authentic Alex Pietrangelo jersey, it's possible the Hurricanes could enter into an agreement with a booking partner like Live Nation - as Raleigh's Red Hat Amphitheater does - or try to join the Oak View Group's Arena Alliance, adidas Carter Hutton jersey, which includes independently run arenas like Madison Square Garden and Atlanta's Philips Arena.

One thing is clear about Dundon, especially after talking to the Hurricanes players who have met with him: He's not going to hesitate to change anything he thinks needs changing. And for a franchise that hasn't made the playoffs in eight years and ranks 30th out of 31 NHL teams in attendance, that could mean just about everything.

The NHL has officially announced its rosters for the upcoming 2018 NHL-All Star Game in Tampa Bay, and among the names are some familiar faces and a few newcomers.

A total of 44 NHL players were chosen a week after the league closed the fan poll and announced the captains of each of the league’s four divisional teams. The format works the same as it has in years past,Authentic Jake Allen jersey, a three-on-three tournament set up between the NHL’s four divisions. Last season, the Metropolitan Division won with Wayne Simmonds as the All-Star Game MVP.

Eichel leads the Sabres in goals (17), assists (22) and points (39). He will be part of the 2018 NHL All-Star Weekend scheduled for Jan. 27-28 at Amalie Arena in Tampa which again will feature a three-game tournament, played in a 3-on-3 format. Teams are competing for a $1 million winner-take-all prize pool.

Eichel is part of the Atlantic Division team, coached by Jon Cooper of the Tampa Bay Lightning. Also on the team are forwards Aleksander Barkov (Florida), Auston Matthews (Toronto), and Steven Stamkos (Tampa Bay), defensemen Mike Green (Detroit), Brad Marchand (Boston), Nikita Kucherov (Tampa Bay), Victor Hedman (Tampa Bay) and Erik Karlsson (Ottawa), and goalies Carey Price (Montreal) and Andrei Vasilevskiy (Tampa Bay). The coach is Jon Cooper of Tampa Bay.

” Eric Staal said. “They’ve got quickness. They’ve got,“They’ve got some good young players, a better belief in the style of game they need to play. When you’re that far behind the eight-ball the way they were last year, it looks like, sometimes it’s difficult to be up for games. But they’re real competitive.”

That 7-2 mark represented the Avalanche’s fifth consecutive victory, placing them – for the time being – in one of the West’s wild card spots. Remarkably, they’ve generated 47 standings points in 41 games in 2017-18 after generating just 48 in all of 2016-17.

With all of that in mind, it might be entertaining and informative to do a deep dive on the Avalanche. Let’s look at what’s been working during the winning streak and beyond.

The most obvious reason is one that sticks out like a frostbitten thumb: Nathan MacKinnon‘s explosion from very good player to superstar.

We won’t beat that drum too much again, as we’ve already done so here and here. Just note that MacKinnon has an absurd 12 points during this five-game winning streak (three goals, nine assists) and is ranked second in scoring with 52 points overall.

but Samuel Girard has five points in as many games,Don’t look now, as Alex Kerfoot would probably be getting more attention as a strong rookie in a weaker Calder year, so Avs fans shouldn’t fret about Matt Duchene starting to heat up in Ottawa. Young players are driving much of Colorado’s success, while Mikko Rantanen continues to ascend the ranks alongside MacKinnon.

At 25, but he’s experienced compared to some of those other names. The sturdy Swede has 32 points in 37 games this season, Gabriel Landeskog isn’t quite old, just one short of tying his 2016-17 total.

Much like James Reimer in Florida, Jonathan Bernier is a backup with some starting experience who’s taking advantage of an opportunity to shine with his team’s starter on the shelf.

Bernier hasn’t been lights-out overall, yet he’s been burning it up during this run. The former first-rounder is on a four-game winning streak, allowing five goals and nabbing one shutout.

The Department of the Army filed a formal opposition by Wednesday’s deadline against the Vegas team’s ownership with the U.S. Trademark and Patent Office over the use of the Golden Knights’ trademark and moniker, as the Army’s official aerial parachute demonstration squad also is known as the Golden Knights.

“We strongly dispute the Army’s allegations that confusion is likely between the Army Golden Knights parachute team and the Vegas Golden Knights major-league hockey team,Authentic Vladimir Tarasenko jersey,” the NHL’s Golden Knights said Thursday in a statement. “Indeed, the two entities have been coexisting without any issues for over a year and we are not aware of a single complaint from anyone attending our games that they were expecting to see the parachute team and not a professional hockey game.

“That said, in light of the pending trademark opposition proceedings, we will have no further comment at this time and will address the Army’s opposition in the relevant legal forums.”

Max Pacioretty broke a long goal drought to help the Montreal Canadiens end a five-game losing streak.

Paul Byron scored in a shootout and Montreal beat the Tampa Bay Lightning 2-1 on Thursday night.

Byron was the only player to score in the shootout. Pacioretty scored in regulation for Montreal in its first victory since Dec. 22. Nikita Kucherov scored for Tampa Bay.

Pacioretty opened the scoring at 20 seconds of the second period.

Mikhail Sergachev, traded by Montreal to Tampa Bay for Jonathan Drouin in June, sent a weak pass up the left boards that was picked off by Pacioretty. The Canadiens captain skated into the slot and beat Andrei Vasilevskiy up high to end a 13-game goal drought dating to Nov. 30.

getting robbed the first shift one game,"No one will really understand what it's like when you go from a stretch where you're not scoring, feeling confident in your game but not producing, adidas Martin Jones jersey, adidas Alex Pietrangelo jersey," said Pacioretty, getting one taken back (for offside) the next game, a five-time 30-goal man who has nine this season.

Vasilevskiy, saw his shutout streak end at 184 minutes, adidas Brent Burns jersey, coming off two straight shutouts, 49 seconds.

Only 44 seconds after the Canadiens took the lead, adidas Vladimir Tarasenko jersey,Kucherov skated into the slot and wristed his 26th goal of the season through traffic to beat Carey Price.

"I'll be honest, I thought this could be a long one, when I saw it was going to a shootout,Authentic Carter Hutton jersey," Tampa Bay coach John Cooper said. "But Byron made a really nice shot.

"That would go in on pretty much anybody. But if I'm going to sit here and circle the best (goalies) in the league, I think we may have just watched two of them."

The Lightning wasted a big chance 6:33 into the third when Karl Alzner mishandled the puck at the far blue line, but Kucherov's backhand on the ensuing breakaway went well over the crossbar.

"That was the most fun I've had playing hockey in a long time," Pacioretty said. "Our line played great. Carey played great. Their goalie played great. You could feel the energy in the building. All things considered, fans were really having fun tonight and really enjoyed the effort in the game. We have to take that in and remember how it feels and play for them and ourselves."
